Considerably smaller than most farm pigs native to America and Europe, the pot-bellied pig is a domesticated species of pig that originates from Vietnam. Their name comes from their hanging belly, which is a result of their unusually long frame.
History:
One of the most common farm animals around the world, pigs have been domesticated since around 13,000 B.C. The genus Sus contains many of the most well-known pig species, the pot-bellied pig included. Because pot-bellied pigs descended from boars like many other pig species, they are often able to interbreed with other types of domesticated pigs. In fact, many groups of pot-bellied pigs are genetically dissimilar from one another, simply because they’ve bred with other pig species over the years.
