The Sahara covers over 3.5 million square miles in North Africa, making it the largest hot desert on Earth (only the cold deserts of the Arctic and Antarctic are larger). The word "Sahara" comes from the Arabic word meaning "desert", so saying "Sahara Desert" is actually a bit redundant.
