Meet AVDAR: Wooden Toys for a World of Imagination

A new world of wooden play is coming to Lil’ Tulips. Meet AVDAR: a toy brand whose colorful blocks, rainbows and puzzles leave room for children to decide what happens next. A tower can become a neighborhood. An arch can become a tunnel. Tomorrow, the same pieces can begin a completely different story.

The story behind AVDAR

Founders Daria and Evgeny began by making toys for their own child. The name AVDAR comes from a Mongolian word for a wooden chest used to keep treasured family belongings. That sense of care carries through to the brand’s handcrafted wooden toys, with hand-sanded shapes and a focus on imaginative play.

What does open-ended play look like?

Open-ended toys offer possibilities without prescribing one finished result. Children can stack, arrange, balance, take apart and try again. There is no need to copy a picture perfectly: the fun comes from discovering what the pieces can do.

For an easy invitation to play, put a small selection of blocks on a clear surface and let your child explore. You might ask, “What could this become?” or simply watch as their idea takes shape.

Classic or Four Seasons?

Selected AVDAR designs come in two color palettes. Classic brings bright rainbow colors to the play space. Four Seasons takes its inspiration from spring, summer, autumn and winter, with shades that reflect the changing year. Choose the colors your family enjoys, then check the individual listing for the set’s size and contents.

Three simple ways to begin

• Build a neighborhood. Arrange blocks as homes, bridges and gathering places, then invent a story about who lives there.
• Turn a rainbow into a landscape. Separate the arches to make tunnels, rolling hills or little shelters. Try a new arrangement each time.
• Take a puzzle beyond its tray. After assembling a design, explore how the individual shapes can become patterns or parts of a larger scene.
